The Black Eyed Susan was originally the Pimlico Race Track’s answer to the Mint Julep. (The Julep is drunk at the Kentucky Derby; the Susan at The Preakness)The Black Eyed Susan is the Maryland State Flower, and the drink was first made with: 2 jiggers Pikeville Maryland Rye Whiskey, 1 jigger Cointreau, a splash of orange juice, a splash of pineapple juice, shaken and served on the rocks in a tall glass with a slice of orange and pineapple. It has no mint; leave that to Kentucky, please.
Are you kidding me? I’m from Baltimore Maryland and this IS NOT a Black Eyed Susan. Read Dave Ebert’s comments above. He’s got the right ingredients.
